Applications are now open for the next delivery of the Community Brokerage Award, running from September 2024 to June 2025.

The award is a certified course, worth 30 credits at SCQF level 7. It is relevant to anyone who wants to provide Community Brokerage to build the capacity of people who need support to live full lives in their community. The course will help you learn more about Self-directed Support and the Community Brokerage approach.

Anyone who works, volunteers, or is interested in working, in a social care role, is welcome to apply. You may have professional or lived experience of social care. The unique opportunity for practice sharing between people with a range of experiences is particularly valued by participants.

Past participants of the course have said:

“I have found having the time to reflect on my work practice and ensure my knowledge of SDS is accurate and up-to-date most useful.”

“It has given me more confidence in discussing self-directed support with Carers and ensuring they are accessing services that they are entitled to.”

“I am incorporating a lot of what I have learned into my job. It’s increased my understanding of how to advocate successfully for people. I feel much more equipped to deal with complex situations and more confident in dealing with the council.”

Application is by a simple online form which asks you what interests you about the award, and gives you space to let the course organisers know about anything that would support you to take part.

The closing date for applications is 31st May 2024 and informal interviews will be held in June.

Find out more and apply via the Community Brokerage Scotland website.
