Development of the 12th Standard for Good SDS – discussion sessions

Discussion Sessions for SDS Scotland Members

This is your invitation to the discussion about the 12th Standard for Good SDS. This is described as:

‘Standard 12. Funding Availability, Budget Calculation and Flexibility of Spend
For people to be able to live as they wish and enjoy their human rights, flexibility is afforded as to how, where, when and on what people can spend their personal budgets. People can opt to change their Self-directed Support options at any time.’

This standard will look at areas such as:

  • How SDS budgets are worked out
  • Who needs to have authority to allocate resources
  • What budgets can be used for – and who decides
  • What information needs to be provided to people using social care services and their carers
  • How can there be consistency in practise across Scotland
  • What administration and recording is required
  • What happens when people can’t use their budget in the way they had originally planned
  • How people can take their budget with them when they move areas, or move from one service to another (eg during Transitions of some kind)
  • What happens when there’s not enough money – how to deal with Unmet Need
  • What additional costs should be included in an SDS budget

SDS Scotland have arranged some discussion sessions on the following dates:

You are welcome to come along to any of the above sessions, but it would be helpful to let me know if you could beforehand.

Look forward to seeing you soon.

Many thanks,

Mark
